Minerals Matter, Too
You probably already know the importance of getting enough of the right vitamins. But what about your minerals? These may not get as much attention. But your body needs minerals just as much as it needs vitamins.
Minerals, such as calcium, potassium, zinc and magnesium do many jobs in your body. They help:
- Form and strengthen your bones
- Make sure that your nerves work well
- Boost your energy
- Regulate your blood pressure
Unlike vitamins, minerals are not made by animals or plants. They are found in the earth’s soil and water and then absorbed by plants or eaten by animals. Because your body does not make minerals, you need to get them from the foods you eat. Fruits, veggies, dairy foods, legumes, and meats are all sources of minerals.
