How to Squeeze Mini-Workouts Into Your Day
It happens all too often. Your job, your kids, or your daily errands get in the way of your fitness routine. And before you know it, you’ve stopped working out altogether. How are you supposed to fit it all in? How can you get the recommended 30 minutes of daily exercise when you have so much to do? It may be easier than you think.
The thing is, you don’t have to do 30 minutes all at once. You can find ways to weave 3 or more10-minute workouts into your daily routine. That can add up to 30 minutes without your even realizing it. You could park 3 blocks from work and walk briskly at a pace that raises your heart rate. If that takes 10 minutes, you’ve accomplished a third of your daily goal. You could also do nearby errands on foot. Do you work in a high rise? Take the stairs to another floor every time you take a bathroom break. Other options to help you add activity to your daily routine include:
- Cleaning the house at a good pace
- Taking the dog for a brisk walk
- Dancing around the living room while (or instead of) watching TV
It may seem like there is never enough time in the day for exercise. But as you make exercise a part of your daily routine, you may find that you don’t even have to think much about it. You will get healthier without even realizing that you found the time for exercise in your normal routine.
