Eating fruits and veggies with every meal is a great way to keep your weight in check. But watch out for some hidden pitfalls. For instance, keep an eye out for added sugars in frozen or canned fruit. Lots of fruit juices have added sugars, too. And when you’re picking up packaged veggies, be sure to check for added salts, cheeses, or other sauces. These may add flavor, but can add calories and lower the nutritional value of the food.
Your best bet is to buy your produce fresh, or frozen with no added ingredients. When cooking your veggies, choose to sauté, steam, or stir-fry. And go easy with the cooking oil to limit your saturated fat content.
