It’s OK to enjoy a small amount of sweet treats every now and then. And you may have done just that on Valentine’s Day. But too much added sugar in your diet can raise your risk of health problems. These include obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

Don’t sweat it if you had a few too many chocolates yesterday. You can get right back on track today. Skip adding sugar to your morning coffee. Steer clear of leftover sweets in the breakroom. Opt for a savory snack, like roasted, unsalted nuts or whole wheat crackers and cheese, rather than a piece of candy. Or grab a piece of fruit after dinner instead of dessert.
