It’s good to increase your level of activity from time to time. It can help you improve your fitness, reach your goals, and avoid plateaus. But too much too soon is hard on your body. Play it safe by increasing your activity level 10 percent a week. So, if you walk 10 laps around the park, add one extra lap today. Or if you jog for 20 minutes, add 2 extra minutes. Let your body get used to the slight increase in activity for a week. Once you’re ready, you can increase your workout by another 10 percent next week.
Make sure to talk with your doctor before starting any new exercise routine.
