Take time each day to focus on recent gifts of love, kindness, or compassion from others. Doing so may help boost feelings of gratitude. And that can help lower stress and boost joy and wellbeing. Gratitude helps shift your focus from the bad to the good things in life. It strengthens your bonds with others. Maybe a friend gave you a lift to work when your car was in the shop? Or maybe a co-worker took a project off your plate? Perhaps a close friend came to your aid during an emotional crisis? Maybe a stranger passing on the street smiled and offered a friendly greeting.

Keep in mind that feeling grateful is not the same as feeling indebted for the gifts others have given you. When you say “thank you” to someone, do it from the heart, not from a sense of politeness or obligation.
