Do you eat only when you’re hungry? Or do you also eat to comfort yourself when stressed, angry, or sad? If you sometimes eat to soothe emotions, it’s probably not broccoli that you reach for. More likely it’s ice cream or chips—foods that have a lot of calories and fat. You can start to break this habit if you comfort yourself with something other than food. So, next time you feel upset, resist the urge to reach for comfort food and reach for your tennis shoes instead. A long walk can help you de-stress and clear your head.
