Keep the object you are lifting close to your body. Do not lean forward when you lift. Do not twist, bend forward, or stretch to reach an object over your head. Bend your knees and hips. Keep your back curved naturally. Keep this curve as you squat down to pick up the object. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and tighten your stomach muscles during the entire movement. Do not twist while you straighten up. You should stand up with the object first. Then move your feet to turn. Also, avoid lifting items that are too heavy.
